52 Weeks :: Week 9

9.2: One Week (+ one day) Old
At one week old, Tessa…

  • is very easy going
  • spends most of her time sleeping and usually has to be woken up to eat
  • is a good eater and we’ve had no problems nursing
  • is most content being held on your chest
  • at night, if not on Lucia’s chest, sleeps best in the swing (not sleeping in the bassinet yet)
  • usually only cries when getting her diaper changed (darn those cold wipes!)
  • spits up like a normal baby so far (i.e. does not projectile vomit like her sisters did)
  • has only had a few blow-outs
  • does not seem to mind the commotion that her sisters create around her
  • was looking yellow in her first week, so Lucia took her in to the Ped to be checked out; Ped wasn’t concerned and said as long as she was eating well her coloring would return to normal.

9.2: Making Cupcakes
Gran made cupcakes with the girls and once again, the girls really enjoyed the process (Mallory wanted to touch all of the ingredients again and Chelsea most liked eating what she could). This time, the girls actually liked the cupcakes and ate several before they put the icing and sprinkles on them. But, once the cupcakes were decorated, they no longer wanted to eat them.

9.2: Fail!
Lucia tried taking some portrait shots of Tessa… the session was a bust. Tessa did not want to sleep and was in no mood to get her picture taken. Plus, the light in our house is not great and Lucia has very little experience with newborn photography which is much more difficult than it looks (positioning a baby, awake or asleep, is tricky… which is why she’s *hiding* in the basket shot; it might be nice if you could see her there!).

9.4: Sponge Bath
Tessa got her first sponge bath at home. Since she doesn’t spit up much, she wasn’t stinky and did not need one before now. She’s also starting to take to the pacifier.

9.6: Game Time
Gran played Candyland with the Mallory and Chelsea today. Chelsea hadn’t played before but by the middle of the game was catching on to taking turns, picking a card and moving her gingerbread man.

9.7: Science Night
Mallory’s preschool has been focusing on the ocean this year. The teachers and many parents put together a life-size diorama depicting the ocean and some of its inhabitants for science night, “Under the Ocean.” Both girls loved walking through it and enjoyed participating in the other ocean-themed activities that were set up.
