Week 1 (Jan. 1 – 7)

52 Weeks :: Week 1

01.1: Two Years Old!
We celebrated Chelsea’s birthday in a very low-key way today… just some present opening and making the (sick) birthday girl feel extra special. By the end of the day, Chelsea could almost sing along to the Happy Birthday song.

52 Weeks :: Week 1

01.1: Bacon, Bacon, Bacon!
Jonathan has turned his daughters into bacon lovers (like him) because he cooks bacon for them most weekends. This long weekend was special because he cooked it two mornings for the birthday girl.

52 Weeks :: Week 1

01.1: Farewell, Bobby
We watched on TV as Bobby Bowden ended his 57 year coaching career by winning his last bowl game. His Florida State Seminoles, whom he coached for 34 years, defeated the West Virginia Mountaineers 33 to 21 in the Gator Bowl in Jacksonville, Florida. Lucia attended FSU during the Seminoles’ Dynasty years and it’s been sad to watch the program decline since then. It was touching to see Bobby plant the spear in the turf, but it was time for him to retire.

01.3: Ice Skater
Mallory’s newest activity started today: ice skating (it’s once a week for 10 weeks). The goals of the “Tot 1” class are to properly fall and get up, march in place, march walking, march then glide, and dip while moving. Mal seemed somewhat comfortable in the skates before getting on the ice. And then once on the ice, she was brave at first and ventured out from the wall. After a couple of falls, her mood quickly changed and she cried and clung to the wall the rest of class. Hopefully next week will go better.

52 Weeks :: Week 1, Day 3

01.3: Vegan Cupcake Experiment
Lucia found a vegan (no dairy or eggs) cupcake recipe with Oreos and thought the girls would like them and like help making them. Mallory was the only one to show interest and wanted to touch every ingredient and help stir. The only time Chelsea showed interest in the process was when it came time to add the Oreos, then Chelsea liked helping eating the ingredients.

01.3: Make a Wish!
Chelsea did a good job of blowing out her candles. She then took a few licks of her cupcake icing (the only part with Oreos) and was done with it. Mallory took a couple bites of the cupcake before she was done. We won’t be making those again — we’re 0-2 when it comes to making vegan cupcakes that the girls like (we tried a Cherrybrook Kitchen box mix a long time ago and should try that one again before we completely rule it out).

52 Weeks :: Week 1, Day 7

01.7: Ice Cold
Even though most of the school districts in the area were closed today because of the frigid temperatures (our ISD only had a two-hour delay, so Mal went for a half day), Mallory requested a popsicle for a snack in the afternoon. Lucia said no at first, but Mal was so adamant that she got her popsicle, then asked for two more.

I have noticed that my photos are no longer converting well from Photoshop to Flickr (losing contrast and the colors are washed out… blah!). My photos previously had looked nearly identical when viewing them in Photoshop and then later online.

I’ve done some changes and updates lately so there are a few areas to investigate (new camera body, new lens, had manually calibrated my monitor and who knows what else). So, I re-calibrated but that didn’t help. Then I thought the problem was Flickr and maybe they changed how they upload photos but I’ve discovered that it might be my browser, Firefox. I don’t think I’ve changed any of my settings in Firefox but I think I just installed a newer version?? In trying to fix the problem, I didn’t see anywhere to make adjustments in how images are displayed. I don’t understand why they look different now… if you have any ideas, please let me know!

So, I guess I’m going to go back to using Safari. When I view my photos (and others’ photos) there, they just look better — rich colors with nice contrast. They match how I’ve processed them in Photshop. So, if my pictures look off to you (washed out or too light), they might look better in another browser. I hope they look ok though.
